How do I help build my child’s confidence in school?

Children who have difficulty learning at school may not be in an environment that values their tremendous strengths and talents.

This is often the case for children who love to build, create and do!

If the school environment doesn’t value your child’s strengths, it’s important to provide opportunities for your child to feel that sense of achievement and accomplishment.

At home, some ideas could be:

  • Create a maker space where your child has lots of recycled materials to build and create
  • Create an art gallery, with clips and rope, where your child has a space to display their artwork
  • Download apps like Scratch, Tinkercad, Minecraft for your child to build and create
  • Find online classes on Outschool or SkillShare that align with your child’s passions and interests
  • Discover mentors, family members, friends that could inspire and support your child’s strengths

At home, continue to celebrate and praise your child strengthens using language that builds their identity.

  • “You are……..when you……….”
    creative
    a problem-solver
    a designer
    critical thinker
    persistent

Children need to feel a sense of achievement and accomplishment to cultivate confidence. This confidence can then be drawn upon during the hard moments at school.
