Cultivating Confidence in the New Year

One of the hardest things to hear is your child say, “I’m dumb. Everyone is smarter than me.” And school, with its reading and writing focus, COVID disruptions, and frequent moves, it’s no wonder ex-pat children with reading difficulties and dyslexia may feel this way.

Parents often ask me: “How can I boost my child’s confidence at home?” My solution is to praise your child’s character strengths.

I believe children build confidence when they understand their strengths and areas for growth.

So in this week’s Five Minutes to Flourish episode, I will teach you how to identify and praise your child’s character strengths at home, so they build confidence for school.

In this week’s episode, you will learn:

Why praising your child’s character strengths builds confidence
How to identify and praise your child’s strengths at home

So tell me, what are your child’s character strengths? How do you see your child exhibit these strengths at home? Here is a list of all 24 Character Strengths as researched by Dr. Seligman.

One of the most important things you can do at home is to build your child’s confidence to overcome the academic challenges they face at school.

And in 2022, I’m looking forward to overcoming these challenges together!
